Our client Birdcage Altona Cafe is looking for a skilled and passionate chef to join their kitchen team. The role involves preparing delicious meals, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality, and delivering great service. Responsibilities
  • Create weekly or daily specials that satisfy seasonal demand and enhance the restaurant's menu.
  • Work together with management to modify the menu in accordance with seasonal ingredients and client preferences.
  • Prepare and serve a range of meat, poultry, lamb, and seafood meals, such as grilled fish, shrimp, and calamari, that are not vegetarian.
  • Make breakfast favourites like pancakes, toasts (including French toast and avocado toast), and fresh salads using premium ingredients.
  • Prepare customised dishes and drinks based on customer requests, ensuring dietary restrictions and preferences are met.
  • Ensure all dishes are presented to a high standard, maintaining consistency in taste, portion size, and appearance.
  • Always keep your kitchen spotless and organised by adhering to good hygiene procedures.
  • Adhere to food safety laws by handling and storing ingredients (especially raw meats and seafood) appropriately.
  • Keep an eye on the amount of stocks and place orders for fresh foods, such as vegetables, meat, and seafood, among other necessities.
  • Encourage and oversee less experienced chefs and kitchen staff to keep things running smoothly, especially during busy times.
  • Taste and assess food frequently to guarantee consistency in preparation and flavour.
  • Work together with the barista crew to create specialized drinks, juices, and smoothies.
  • Reduce food waste, and maximize the use of all ingredients, and regulate portion sizes to control food expenses.
Qualifications

Experience as a Chef with veg and non veg including seafood dishes in Australia
